The first thing we have to see is if we have a more or less smooth (or at least not rough) container to wash our carpet. If this is small, a relatively large basin will suffice, although we most likely have to resort to the shower or even a bathtub.
Unless we try to clean a small stain, washing a medium or large carpet in a small container can become torture. Whenever possible, we will choose a bathtub, in addition to a tile or stone floor on which nothing happens if waterfalls.
Water To Wash Our Carpet
Once we have chosen the place where we will wash the carpet, we will fill it with abundant warm water. This is also crucial since hot or cold temperatures can break the tissues in exactly the same way as the washing machine. Between 25 and 30 degrees is an acceptable temperature.
How to know the temperature if we do not have a thermostat? What we can do is choose hot water and go hand in hand every few minutes. When we get it, we notice a lot of heat, but a pleasant sensation instead of the need to run out of hand will be the ideal moment.
The Use Of Soaps To Wash A Carpet
Our advice is to run away from industrial detergents and soaps designed for washing machines. The problem is that with some, there is a boomerang effect, and once the carpet is cleaned, it becomes a magnet for dust.
There are soaps for handwashing. If we opt for these against natural soaps made by us, we should look carefully at the label and avoid alcohols, dyes, or odors. Our carpet does not need to smell good to be clean.
How To Wash Your Carpet By Hand
The washing mode is not at all like the turns that the carpet can take in the washing machine. And neither to the jolts is that seen in the films in which it is washed in the rivers. Patience plays an important place in carpet conservation.
The best way to wash a carpet is to submerge it completely in the mild soapy water that we have prepared and, with our hands, gradually go up and down the fabric — making the water penetrate the carpet without abruptness. This is if you can use a professional carpet cleaner machine to clean your carpet. If this is an options it’s a good option to pick generally.
The love with which it should be done is very similar to the choking games, in which the head of the kids is pushed down but delicately. Next, we will see how the water around the carpet darkens while the dirt leaves.
Ideally, remove the carpet from the container, leave it in a bowl while emptying it, and start the process again. After two or three times, we will see that the water in which we wash the carpet barely darkens.
This is crucial: even if we wash it ten times, the water will continue to get dirty. There is a time when we have to stop the process, so we could mark a maximum of four washes with warm water — one after another.
Rinse With Plenty Of Warm Water
The last step is one of the most important and will require a lot of water. That’s why a bathtub is an ideal place. It is the rinse, by means of which we are going to remove any soap that could remain inside the carpet. Otherwise, it could be cornered during drying.
Something that usually works very well is to give enough pressure to the shower and open the jet as much as possible. If you have a regulator, of course. If the jet is concentrated, it is better to use the waterfall. This way, we will avoid mistreating the tissues.
Drain: Pre-Drying
The drying of the carpet is a process that advises making the outdoors or, at best, to the air. No dryers or direct heat applied to the carpet. That is, it is a process that can take even one or two days. Read more about the drying process here and more tips on carpet cleaning.
To do this, it is convenient to drain the carpet as much as possible before laying it. This will save us a long wait. Rolling it a couple of times on itself helps keep the tissues in good condition while folding it can cause very small breaks.
